WHAT IS COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AT MATAHARI?
There are many ways to get involved with Matahari. As sisters, we hold trainings, workshops and other gatherings to protect our rights. We hold community meetings throughout the Greater Boston area, including New Member Orientations and trainings on the Bill of Rights. We also host an annual National Nanny Training Day, and we have other leadership and job development programs throughout the year. So, check out all of our different events and ways of getting involved!
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
These bi-weekly meetings aim to further build community amongst domestic workers either living or working in neighborhoods around Boston. We strategize about outreach and upcoming campaigns, and we build relationships of trust with each other. Meetings are also an opportunity to learn more about Matahari, meet current staff and members, and become a member. Ultimately, these meetings are run by and for domestic workers and community members. Check out our calendar for upcoming meetings near you!
Domestic Workers' Bill of Rights trainings are held monthly at the Matahari office in downtown Boston, but also bi-weekly in different Boston neighborhoods, including Jamaica Plain, Charlestown and others. The goal of these trainings is to educate domestic workers and community members about the bill of rights and how it will affect them.
A six week leadership development program for domestic workers and members of the community to facilitate leadership. The program provides mentorship and includes weekly meetings and training sessions that range from fundraising to conflict management. The programs also provides a stipend of $300.
NATIONAL NANNY TRAINING DAY
An annual event that provides training to nannies across Boston. The two-day conference includes an opportunity to build relationships with other nannies, First Aid and CPR training, workshops covering nutrition and job development. Visit us here http://nntd2014.mataharijustice.org.
